Sustainability Policy
Sustainibility policy
The organisers of The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen 2025 are committed to delivering an event that minimises its environmental impact and champions diversity, inclusion, and fair working conditions.
All participants (e.g., attendees, vendors, crew and performers) are encouraged to adopt environmentally responsible behaviour and promote environmental awareness.
The event's environmental impact will be measured to create a lasting legacy of good practice, lessons learned, and continual improvement for future events in Aberdeen.
The organisers of The Tall Ships Races Aberdeen 2025 will host an event which embeds sustainability in the following ways:
Management of waste
We will work with participants to minimise waste and ensure its responsible management. Dedicated food waste bins will be provided to increase recycling and composting, diverting food waste from landfill and reducing our environmental impact.
Source responsibly, supporting our community
We are committed to sourcing responsibly and supporting our community by partnering with Scottish vendors. We will prioritise locally sourced food, drink, and other retail items, recognising the importance of supporting local businesses to strengthen our economy and community. We aim for over 80% of our catering to be sourced from Scotland.
Reducing carbon intensity
We are committed to minimising the event's carbon footprint through practical measures and by promoting behavioural changes. This includes investigating and implementing the use of sustainable fuels and energy efficiency initiatives where possible.
Accessibility
We will provide information to encourage participants to travel to the event using sustainable and active transportation methods, such as public transport, walking, or cycling. We are committed to ensuring the event is accessible to everyone, and this includes providing clear and comprehensive travel information for all modes of transportation.
Protect the natural environment
We are committed to safeguarding the natural environment, including the North Sea and the River Dee, which are valuable local habitats. We will collaborate with all participants to minimise the risk of harm to the event sites and prevent pollution of any kind. This includes implementing measures to protect water quality, prevent littering, and minimising noise and light pollution.
Promote diversity and inclusion
We will strive to create an inclusive environment where all participants feel welcome and respected, regardless of their background.
